Lagos the land of Alternatives and Contrast
From mainland to island,
3rd mainland to Lekki- Ikoyi Link Bridge,
Alausa to marina,
Balogun to yaba,
Unilag to Lasu,
Whatever you are looking for in Lagos,
It exists trust me.
You can move around in your own car or an Uber,
Or a bus (yellow or white), pick your choice,
Danfo or korope, bike or keke,
Do you see what I am talking about?
Best you think about your peace of mind,
When weighing your options.
Some party aristocrat while others are more democratic,
Just island axis, no mainland please,
Some of us have been robbed,
Chased down a bus wearing suit,
Just for this Lagos life,
But we don’t mind,
It is the life that we chose.
It is the lagos life, but the dream is for London living,
Big corporations, multinationals,
I mean Silicon Valley style,
Or 30k job that requires you to wear suit upandown,
Eko o ni baje o, keep lagos clean!
But the city is dirty, even the pacesetter state is cleaner.
Some live rent free, while others pay ridiculous amounts yearly,
There’s usually no space under bridge cos of the many homeless
lagosians,
And whenever it rains, we become the river lands.
Some people have gotten to Abuja before we got to our house,
From the airport, all in this Lagos,
But it is the hustle, it is the vibe, the endless possibilities,
that drives us.
We are all here together in this city,
The 9-5ers, the hustlers, the fraudsters,
The agberos, the politicians, commercial policemen and women,
The market women, yaba left people, oniduro banana island people,
Lagos Twitter, Igbo traders, youth corpers,
We are not the same kinds of people,
But we are all what makes Lagos the center of commerce.

The hustling and buzzing of Lagos makes lagosians more stronger and at alert.

ReplyDeleteYea but we love our Lagos
ReplyDeleteLagos Lagos ahaha
ReplyDeleteYeah. You're so right.
ReplyDeleteIt's the hustle, the vibes and the endless possibilities that makes Lagos Fun. Lagos won't be lagos without its stress but we love it though.
It keeps one smart and agile. Eko oni baje!
You've perfectly constructed this. No irony, to the no Man's State!😀😀
ReplyDeleteOmo, Lagos stress is not for the weak. I wonder how people cope. A land with so much opportunities too that makes people deal with the stress. I twale for people staying there.
ReplyDeleteMake sense. May be reap the fruit of the land.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great piece for anyone who probably hasn't even stepped into Lagos at all. It gives a sneak preview into the highs and lows a visitor can expect in the face of his clan; the fun and struggles, and importantly, it subtly creates a sense of excitement. Yes, Lagos is dirty and we can only hope the elites at least do their parts and not drop trash off the windows of their luxurious cars; maybe have some luxurious way of thinking too. Flooding in Lagos is on another level- oops. Wondering why the author skipped the part of commercial buses and the owners/drivers of the Range Rovers and Mercedes' as they beat the red light all the time.
ReplyDeleteNice Rhythm, very contextual and relatable.
ReplyDeleteKeep this up 🚀
Creative artistry at a climax! Keep the flag flying Brotherman. 🥳🙌💯
ReplyDeleteThis gives a clue to people who haven't been to Lagos. Nice work bro 👍
ReplyDeleteReally wonder piece of writing.
ReplyDeletePeace
